West Indies have reinstated hard-hitting batter Shimron Hetmyer and fast bowler Oshane Thomas to their team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. Following their recoveries from operations, fast bowler Jayden Seales and legspinner Yannick Cariah have been added to the 15-man team, while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has also returned.

Injured all-rounder Keemo Paul was ruled out, while former skipper Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder were ruled out.

Hetmyer and Thomas have been out of the West Indies’ ODI system for a time, having last played in the format over two years ago. “We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the fold.” Both have previous international experience, with some success, and we believe they will fit in well,” said head selector Desmond Haynes.

“Oshane brings pace and has the potential to take wickets with the new ball.” Shimron’s batting approach will provide a lot, particularly in the middle of the innings, and he is also a potential ‘finisher.'”

West Indies will have to rebuild their 50-over game after missing out on qualification for the 2018 ODI World Cup in India. The series, which begins on July 27, will see the first two games played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados before the teams travel to Trinidad for the final ODI on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
