Gavaskar is against leaving Kohli out of India’s preparations for the T20 World Cup, stating that “his form should be observed.”

Since India was eliminated in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022, players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and others have not been part of India’s T20I preparations, and Hardik Pandya has been the captain. With so many young Indian hitters displaying their skills in the IPL, many people believe Kohli and Rohit have reached the end of their careers.

Still, the BCCI selectors have not made any public statements concerning Kohli and Rohit’s future in T20Is. When asked about Kohli’s future in T20Is, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar said his performance in the IPL 2024 should be monitored before making a decision on his selection.

“The next T20 World Cup will be held in 2024,” Gavaskar told Sports Tak. There will be another IPL in March and April before that. “At that point, you should look at Kohli’s shape,” he remarked. It’s futile to discuss it right now. With the way he’s been playing, he absolutely belongs on the team for a future T20 international, perhaps India’s game in June.

‘If I were a selector and India was playing a T20I in June,’ he said. However, in terms of the 2024 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and America, the form of IPL players must be reviewed first, and then we can talk World Cup squad selection. Virat would be in my T20I selection for India’s future matches in the format based on his current form. In the IPL 2023, he has two hundreds. In T20 cricket, hitting two hundreds is difficult; even getting to 50 is difficult.

“This fantastic batter has a total of two hundred.” If I were a selector and India was playing a T20 in June of this year, I would unquestionably select him.”

Kohli scored 639 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2023, including six fifties and two back-to-back hundreds.
