Shubman Gill Opens Against MI in Qualifier 2 with “My Best IPL Innings…”

Titans defeated Mumbai Indians by 62 runs to advance to their second consecutive IPL final courtesy of Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 129 off 60 balls.

Prior to a T20 series in New Zealand following the T20 World Cup in Australia, Shubman Gill believes that focusing on specific technical aspects and making a few adjustments did miracles for his performance. For the record, Gill was not selected for the 2022 World Cup because the team coached by Rahul Dravid chose the batting order of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli. Gill, who was criticized for his strike rate in previous IPL editions, has secured a ‘Orange Cap’ with 851 runs and three centuries in the 16th edition, propelling Gujarat Titans to their second straight IPL final.

Gill sent the Mumbai Indians bowling attack on a leather hunt on Friday, scoring 129 off 60 deliveries as the Titans easily won by 62 runs in the second Qualifier.

“Since the last West Indies tour in 2022, I believe I’ve improved; I was injured before the last IPL, but I’ve been working on my game.” During the post-match presentation, he stated, “I worked on a few areas and made technical adjustments in preparation for the New Zealand series following the T20 World Cup.”

Three hundreds in a single IPL season is second only to Virat Kohli’s four in 2016, the last year in which RCB played in the finals. The former captain scored 973 runs to set a record.

“I believe this was my best innings in the IPL to date,” the 23-year-old Punjab player said.

Gill responded, “Expectations are something that follow you outside the ropes, but once you step onto the field, it’s all about contributing to the team.” Gill believes that a strong beginning is essential for him to score heavily.

It is similar to playing ball to ball over and over again. The over, in which I hit three sixes, gave me the confidence to play aggressively. I realized it might be my fortunate day at that point.

It was also an excellent pitch for batting. It was not a deliberate choice; you continue to invent as a batter, but belief is more important to me. I also enjoyed a prosperous international season. I also had a successful season the previous year. When I get off to a good start, I am confident that I will perform well.
