'Show Your Presence Like Virat Kohli...': A Strong Message To Rohit Sharma From An Ex-Pakistani Star

Rohit Sharma will skipper the Indian team in Tests and ODIs during the upcoming West Indies tour.

The BCCI announced the Test and One-Day International squads for India’s forthcoming visit to the West Indies earlier this week. In all formats, Rohit Sharma will captain the squad, with Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy in Tests and ODIs, respectively.

Another big change was the departure of senior hitter Cheteshwar Pujara from the team following his poor batting performance in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal discussed the upcoming tour while examining India’s lineup.

While India skipper Rohit Sharma has done well in his limited tenure as Test captain, Akmal believes he has to show more authority on the field, similar to his predecessor Virat Kohli.

“It’s a very well-balanced team.” The Indian team must make a solid first impression. I’d like Rohit Sharma to perform better as captain. Show your presence on the field, just like Virat Kohli. He now has a chance. “Having said that,” Akmal noted on his YouTube channel, “Rohit Sharma has done a good job so far following the Kohli issue.”

Despite praising the selection committee, Akmal expressed concern about the absence of Sarfaraz Khan and Umran Malik.

“There’s always a discussion about one or two players.” Looking at the stats, one person who springs to mind is Sarfaraz Khan. He was unable to play, but he should have traveled with the team. You could’ve assured him that we’re not ignoring him and that there’s always the chance he’ll return in the future. There was a perfect tour for him to join the team. Umran Malik’s speed may have also proved fatal. “The pitch in the West Indies is dry, and the Dukes’ ball will have a reverse swing,” he added.
