Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, said that even though his team was great with the ball, they made simple mistakes that caused them to lose the first playoff to the Chennai Super Kings.
After choosing to play first, GT kept CSK to a low score of 172 on a dry Chepauk pitch, but they kept losing wickets and lost by 15 runs in the end.
“I think we were pretty good with the ball, but we did some simple things wrong. I think that caused us to lose the game. Pandya said after the loss, “After the first innings, with the wicket and bowlers we had, I thought we went exactly 15 runs over the score where we should have stopped them.”
A Few Softballs Were Bowled:
While praising his spinners, Pandya said that GT had thrown a few soft balls and that the dew that GT had hoped for never came.
“We did a lot of things right. I think it’s because we threw a few soft balls in the middle. We were carrying out a lot of plans, and then all of a sudden, we gave some runs on balls that must have been easy,” Pandya said.
Hardik said, “No, I don’t think so,” when asked if he regretted his choice at the toss. “You know it’s not good to have regrets in life. We thought it might rain. It didn’t happen, but I think we still gave them an extra 15 runs. We also lost wickets as a batting team, so we were always trying to win.
Overall, he said, “I don’t think we did the right things in either department, and that’s why I’m talking to you [as the losing captain] right now.”
Pandya praises Dhoni’s smart choices
The GT captain also praised the way CSK captain MS Dhoni chose to bowl, which made the goal seem like it was 10 runs higher than it was.
“Yeah, you see, that’s what’s so great about him. With his mind and the way he uses the bowlers, he will make you feel like he is adding ten runs to the score. And, you know, we kept losing wickets today, but he kept using the right bowlers for the situation,” Hardik said in conclusion.
