News Recap IPL 2023

Axar Patel named DC vice-captain

In the absence of regular captain Rishabh Pant, India allrounder Axar Patel has been named as Warner’s deputy.

“Rishabh has been an excellent leader for the Delhi Capitals, and we’ll all miss having him around,” Warner said. “I’d like to express my gratitude to the management for their unwavering belief in me. This franchise has always felt like home to me, and I’m thrilled to be leading such a talented group of players. I can’t wait to meet everyone and get started!”

Sourav Ganguly has also returned to DC, this time as Director of Cricket. In 2019, the former India captain served as the team’s mentor.

Will Jacks has been ruled out of the IPL 2023.

Will Jacks has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 after suffering a muscle injury during England’s second ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. He did not participate in England’s subsequent tour of Bangladesh. Jacks, who has yet to appear in the IPL, was selected by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recent auction for INR 3.2 crore.

Richardson has been ruled out of the season.

Jhye Richardson, who had hamstring surgery, will miss the upcoming IPL season and is also doubtful for the Ashes, which will be held in England later this year.

Richardson, who previously played for the Punjab Kings, was scheduled to play for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023. However, he suffered a hamstring injury again while playing club cricket, having previously sustained the injury during the Big Bash League. The injury kept him out of the ODI series against India, which began on March 17, and he later underwent surgery.

CSK is confident in Stokes’ availability.

The Chennai Super Kings are confident that Ben Stokes will be available for the entire Indian Premier League season (IPL). Contrary to initial assurances about the full availability of English players, franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated that they have no information. “That is our interpretation. The BCCI informed us prior to the auction that the English players would be available for the duration of the IPL “Viswanathan told Cricbuzz about it. “We haven’t received any information that contradicts the BCCI communication.”

The CSK official’s claim comes as Stokes stated that he would consider leaving the IPL early in order to play in England’s Test against Ireland. The Ireland Test is too close to the IPL dates, which run from March 31 to May 28, and if Chennai Super Kings qualify for the final, there may be a clash, if not an overlap. In that case, all parties, including the franchise, the player, the BCCI, and the England board, will have to reach an agreement on Stokes, for whom CSK paid Rs 16.25 crore at the auction.

Bumrah’s return could take longer; even IPL and WTC finals are unlikely.

Jasprit Bumrah’s injury appears to be more serious than first thought, and he may be out for longer than expected. As of now, the India captain is seriously doubtful for the IPL. He may even be unable to compete in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in the United Kingdom in June. According to sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bumrah, who has been out of international action for nearly five months, is not feeling well and faces a potentially lengthy break. The Indian team’s goal is to have him ready for the World Cup in October-November, if not the Asia Cup.

Initially, it was thought that Bumrah’s return to the IPL would be acceptable because he would only bowl four overs per game, and the original plan was for him to gradually increase his workload, and an IPL return fit the bill. However, it will now take longer, and the BCCI, NCA, and Indian team management are working on a meticulously planned schedule for his return.

Warner and Markram will lead DC and SRH.

In the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), David Warner and Aiden Markram will captain their respective franchises. The Australian will captain the Delhi Capitals, while the South African will captain the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The management teams of the two franchises have confirmed this, telling Cricbuzz about the change in their leadership. “David will be our captain, and Axar Patel will be his deputy,” a member of the Delhi Capitals ownership group said.

According to an SRH official, the franchise management decided to make Markram the skipper after his outstanding performance in the recent SA20, in which the South African led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory.

Prasidh Krishna has ruled himself out of the IPL 2023.

Prasidh Krishna, the Rajasthan Royals’ fast bowler, will miss the upcoming season. The Karnataka pacer suffered a lumbar stress fracture and underwent surgery for it, which will now necessitate a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Rajasthan Royals spent up to INR 10 crore to secure the fast bowler’s services ahead of the 2022 season, having previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders. The franchise stated that a replacement for Prasidh will be sought and named in due course for the 2023 season. Some of their seam bowling options include Kuldeep Sen, Kuldip Yadav, Navdeep Saini, KM Asif, Obed McCoy, Trent Boult, and Jason Holder.

GT and CSK will kick off the IPL 2023 season on March 31.

Gujarat Titans will play Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 opener in Ahmedabad on March 31. The playoff locations and dates will be announced after the May 28 final.

70 games—18 doubleheaders—will conclude the league stage on May 21. All ten teams will play seven home and seven away games in the tournament’s home-and-away format. Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals will play two home games in Dharamshala and Guwahati during the league stage at 12 different venues. The tournament’s home-and-away format was last used in 2019.
